CANADA IS TURNING 150 IN 2017—and EVERYONE is invited!
In anticipation of this historic milestone, the Royal Canadian Mint invited Canadians to create commemorative designs for the coins that will enter circulation during that special year—fresh new ideas that reflect the hopes and dreams of 21st-century Canadians from coast to coast to coast.
The My Canada, My Inspiration contest offered participants five categories, including a special “Future” theme reserved strictly for youngsters under the age of 12 years. Over 10,000 submissions were received, and a panel of notable Canadians including Rick Hansen and Chris Hadfield participated in the challenging task of selecting 25 finalists for the online public vote.
Each of these coins is a historic keepsake that marks an exciting milestone in the ongoing adventure that is Canada and also represents a very rare, and collectible occasion where the public is given the opportunity to determine its own currency—a unique expression of hope and pride in the place they call “home” that will inspire generations to come!
